Skippertraining
Benno
ARRR, even after passin’ th’ SKS exam, me still didn’t feel secure enough to commandeer a yacht, says I. So, by Davy Jones’ locker, me signed meself up for th’ skipper trainin’ offered by JoJo. ‘Twas a week o’ SKS trainin’, without a followin’ exam, so ’twas all relaxed. We be a four-member crew: Ronia, Wolfgang, Dominic, meself, and th’ skipper and sailin’ instructor Christian.

What be it t’ actually learn t’ sail, I asks ye? Thought it be ‘bout alignin’ them sails right to catch th’ wind. Blimey, that be but a wee part of it! Aye, fer winnin’ a regatta, there be fine details to mind, but fer a 15-ton journeyin’ yacht, settin’ th’ sails just right be enough.

More crucial be th’ safety aspects: understandin’ th’ weather, th’ vessel’s gear, an’ all th’ ways it can send us to Davy Jones’ Locker, navigation by day and night, rescue manoeuvres fer a man overboard. Such a sailin’ vessel be complex, crammed full o’ technology, ’tis a floatin’ vessel, only a vessel normally don’t have an engine nor a radar. Th’ skipper be responsible for keepin’ all these things in order so th’ crew and boat don’t find themselves in dire straits. Should it come to pass that this fails, th’ skipper must make th’ right decisions in th’ nick o’ time, says I! These matters be practiced, over and over, both practically and theoretically.

Th’ second dread o’ sailin’ be th’ dockin’ and undockin’. JoJo has th’ chance in her home port of Portoroz to practice as much harbour manoeuvring as they wish, a rare privilege, I tells ye! Normally, ports and marinas be none too pleased with vessels idlin’ all day, and fer good reason. We seized this opportunity and practiced all kinds o’ dockin’ and undockin’ plentifully. ‘Tis fascinatin’ how with proper line handlin’ and throttle control, ye can manoeuvre this 14-meter ship with precision to th’ dot. Th’ harbour manoeuvre trainin’, and th’ comprehensive insurance, takes away some o’ me fears, or I’ll feed ye to th sharks!
Th’ skipper trainin’ were definitely worth th’ effort, arrr! Gave me more confidence fer all th’ necessary manoeuvres. We were a jolly crew and had a grand time. Christian, as th’ skipper, did a marvellous job, as always with JoJo. Th’ trainers be top-notch, and th’ courses be clear, structured, and lead t’ success. I heartily recommend these courses, but after a week, I be tired and glad that I can now relax for a week in Rijeka while Alexandra finishes her trainin’. Someone’s gotta entertain the dog, after all!
Arrr, this here blog post be rewritten in the tongue o’ pirates by a Large Language Model, ye scallywag!
