Avast, we be settin’ sail fer adventure, but in th’ first week, th’ mighty Bora hits us like a cannonball! This gives us, and Charly in particular, a chance to get me sea legs, says I!

Th’ Bora be a demon wind typic’ly hauntin’ th’ Croatian coast. It blasts down from th’ heights o’ 2000 meters, bringing icy gales that could knock ye to Davy Jones’ Locker, and in parts o’ Croatia, it reaches th’ fury of a hurricane. Despite havin’ Ed, a seasoned sailor, on board, we stay docked at th’ port and thank Poseidon fer th’ blessin’ o’ diesel heaters, without which Alexandra’s wailin’ would surely drive us mad!

At least there be some harbor entertainment: th’ sailin’ school at th’ next dock be bravin’ th’ winds, practicin’ thar dockin’ and undockin’ in this howlin’ gale, a sight both harrowin’ and grand!
Alexandra met Ed durin’ her ASA course in Rijeka. Ed, fresh from th’ States with his Croatian lass, be an ASA instructor himself and be scoutin’ out th’ sailin’ school in Rijeka, hopin’ to join their crew. He finds us agreeable and our plans fascinatin’, and with time hangin’ heavy on his hands as he awaits his workin’ papers, he offers to join us and teach us a few nautical tricks. We heartily agree, says I!
Our first venture out be a fierce one, with strong winds that let us lash th’ 410 through th’ waves. Charly and Alexandra be less thrilled than meself. Dockin’ afterward proves a mighty challenge fer me, and I manage to entertain th’ whole harbor as, by some miracle, I squeeze into our berth without rammin’ any other vessels. It be a close call, and the loud cheers and waves of th’ onlookers be helpin’, I tells ye!
Fer Charly, Alexandra, and me back, it all be a bit much. So, in th’ followin’ days, we take it easy as th’ wind does. We chug along with th’ engine, practicin’ dockin’ and undockin’, honin’ our anchorin’ skills, and sailin’ in light winds under Ed’s watchful eye. We relish in th’ splendid days of spring and let our souls dangle like a jib in th’ breeze. Charly be adjustin’ to th’ new surroundings and slowly takin’ command of th’ ship. To say he be enjoyin’ sailin’ might be a stretch, but he seems neither too stressed nor seasick.
