After my skipper training course, Alexandra and I are taking turns in Rijeka. This week it’s Alexandra’s turn to do her ASA 101,103,104 courses, while I can chill and take care of the dog.

Although I passed the SKS exam, I still didn’t feel confident enough to helm a yacht. That’s why I signed up for the skipper training offered by JoJo. It was a week of SKS training, without a subsequent exam, so very relaxed. We were a four-member crew, Ronia, Wolfgang, Dominic, me, and the skipper and sailing instructor Christian.

When we had the idea to sail around the world, there was really only one major problem: we can’t sail at all. This kind of thing makes me nervous, but Alex reassures me: we have all the time in the world to learn, and that’s exactly what we’ll do in 2026.

There are people who just buy a yacht and set sail without a clue. You can totally do that, and there’s nothing wrong with it—but we’re way too uptight for that.

My dream is to embark on a journey across the globe in a camper, while my wife dreams of sailing around the world. So, let’s delve into the world of sailing.
